The Name of the Rose (4K restoration)

Finally sat down with the new 4K restoration of The Name of the Rose. It's been years since I read the Eco novel, and I remembered liking it more than I remembered any of the actual plot.

Turns out the movie doesn't need you to recall the theology lectures. It's a monk murder mystery, plain and simple, and the restoration makes the abbey feel like an actual cold, dangerous place instead of just a dark set with fog machines running. You can see the texture in every stone hallway now, and it changes how the whole thing sits โ€” less "prestige adaptation," more "something bad is happening in this building and everyone in it knows it."

Recommended, especially if you never got around to the book.
